Jerry Eaton, Dive Team Captain, has been called to active duty beginning in December.  We wish Jerry well in his service to our country and also wish him a safe and speedy return.  In the interim, Brian Dunn is acting Dive Team Captain.
 

 

These pictures were taken on May 19th, 2003, while doing a training exercise.  The exercise simulated a a military pilot who had ejected after attempting an emergency landing at the airport.  
 

His aircraft crashed short of the runway on the west side of the north end of Ravine.  A parachute was spotted on the south end of Ravine, but the pilot was not attached.  Eyewitnesses said he initially went in the water just off the southwest corner of the island.  
 

 

These are pictures of an ice dive that was conducted by the Beadle County Dive Team on February 21, 2004 at Ravine Lake.  Four members of the Dive Team had attended Dive Rescue International Ice Dive Training in Big Stone SD last year and this dive was to maintain their skills in this type of diving.  
Not only is the water temperature cold, there is also the ice which creates an over-head environment and would pose a problem should a diver encounter difficulty with his equipment.  He can't surface just anywhere.  A lifeline is used by the diver for reference and to communicate with the line tender topside.
