PROCEEDINGS OF THE BEADLE COUNTY COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 5, 2006
The Board of Beadle County Commissioners met Tuesday – September 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., pursuant to adjournment of August 31, 2006 with members present: Chairman Mattke, Vice Chairman Chase, Marcus, Dahl and Ziegeldorf.
Moved by Chase, seconded by Dahl. Motion carried. To adopt the following resolution:
RESOLUTION 09-01-06
“VOTE NO ON INITIATED MEASURE 8”
WHEREAS, in 2003, South Dakota instituted a tax on the gross receipts of wireless communications companies; and,
WHEREAS, county governments across the state receive forty (40) percent of the total Revenue of this tax; and,
WHEREAS, Beadle County receives $73,788.52 from this revenue source; and,
WHEREAS, South Dakota voters will be asked to repeal this tax via Initiated Measure 8 in this November’s election;
and,
WHEREAS, if Initiated Measure 8 is passed by South Dakota voters, Beadle County would be forced to consider significant cuts in county services or propose an opt out of the property tax freeze.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Beadle County Commission does hereby offer its official opposition to Initiated Measure 8; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that the Beadle County Commission asks all voters in Beadle County to vote NO on Initiated Measure 8.
Moved by Dahl, seconded by Marcus. Motion carried. To go into Executive Session at 10:27 a.m. to discuss personnel matters. Chairman Mattke declared Executive Session over at 10:44 a.m.
At 11:00 a.m. Chairman Mattke declared time for Provisional Budget hearing. No one appeared. Final Budget hearing will be September 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.
On motion the Board adjourned to meet next on September 12, 2006 at 9:00 a.m.
