PROCEEDINGS OF THE BEADLE COUNTY COMMISSION
AUGUST 7, 2007
The Board of Beadle County Commissioners met Tuesday – August 7, 2007 at 9:00 a.m., pursuant to adjournment of July 31, 2007 with members present: Chairman Mattke, Vice Chair Marcus, Chase and Drake. Absent: Werner.
The minutes of July 31, 2007 were approved as read with no additions or changes.
Moved by Marcus, seconded by Chase. Motion carried. To approve for the Beadle County Sheriff’s Office to charge 40 cents per mile for serving papers.
At 11:00 a.m. Chairman Mattke opened Public Hearing and read Notice to Public Hearing for Amendment of Beadle County Wheel Tax Ordinance.
Chairman Mattke asked for comments.
K.O. Kauth asked for what percent goes to towns and townships at present as prior to 1997 it was 5%. Commissioner Chase informed those in attendance that 3% is currently prorated to towns and 3% to the townships. Mr. Kauth said he was in favor of turkey plant but hard to understand spending approximately $245,000.00 county money on a township road when county roads were in need of maintenance. Mr. Kauth understands it was a rough year on roads and bridges, same as 1997 when the Commission tried to amend wheel tax ordinance.
Hoye L Paye asked if there was Federal Aid for damaged roads and bridges. Commissioner Mattke responded that for damage due to flooding; but any other preventive maintenance the County is responsible for. Mr. Paye stated that next to the 2 bridges in Pearl Creek township the roads are rough and gravel gone. Mr. Paye expressed concerns about the expensive machinery at the Highway Shop not being used.
Chairman Mattke closed Public Hearing at 11:30 a.m. and announced that the second hearing will be held August 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.
On motion the Board adjourned to meet August 14, 2007 at 9:00 a.m.
